Knowledge Musona’s goal helps Warriors salvage a point against Angola at AFCON
Zimbabwe continue their search for a first win at the ongoing 2025 AFCON after settling for a 1–1 draw against Angola on Friday afternoon at Stade de Marrakech.
The Warriors could have taken the lead as early as the second minute, but Bill Antonio failed to capitalise on a clear scoring opportunity. Angola opened the scoring in the 23rd minute through Gelson Dala, who found space inside the box before firing a low shot past the near left post.
Zimbabwe’s first-half performance was unconvincing, with the team creating only two chances compared to Angola’s six. However, Knowledge Musona struck in first-half added time to level matters at 1–1 and earn Zimbabwe a crucial point.
Musona’s goal saw him join Warriors legend Peter Ndlovu as the only two Zimbabwean players to score three goals at the AFCON finals. He also wrote his name into the history books by becoming the first Zimbabwean player to score at three different AFCON editions. His previous goals came against Tunisia in the 2017 tournament and Guinea in the 2021 edition.
In the second half, Zimbabwe created limited opportunities, and substitutes Ishmael Wadi and Tawanda Chirewa were unable to make a significant impact on the game.
Zimbabwe remain bottom of Group B with one point, the same tally as Angola, who sit in third position.
