Two killed in New Year’s Day road traffic accident
THERE was a bloody start to the year 2026 after two people died in a road traffic accident along the Mutare-Masvingo highway this Thursday.
The crash occured after the commuter omnibus burst one of its tyres before rolling over.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at Rimiti area near Wengezi, along Mutare-Masvingo road on January 1, 2026 in the morning.
“Two people were killed when a Nissan Caravan kombi overturned after one of the vehicle’s tyre burst,” said Nyathi.
The number of the injured victims is yet to be established.
