ZRP officer jailed 3-years for drug possession

Magistrate Patricia Gwetsai has sentenced Tinashe Maviya (33), a Police officer based in Mutare to three years in prison for unlawful possession of dagga.

Maviya is a sergeant stationed at Dangamvura Police Station. He was sentenced together with Ngonidzashe Muzarawetu (22) of 306 Area 7, Dangamvura.

The duo was arrested on September 14, 2025, in Shurugwi after being found in possession of dagga.

Maviya was found in possession of 2.8 kg of dagga, while Muzarawetu was found with 0.04kg.

Their arrest followed a tip-off received by Shurugwi Police officers that the duo was selling dagga at Nash 1 Mining area.

Enock Shunye, who allegedly bought dagga from the convicts at the mine was also arrested.

Maviya and Muzarawetu fled arrest and were later apprehended at Batanai Shop, in Musana area. Detectives arrested them when they disembarked from a vehicle.
