Gokwe men arrested after trying to kill fellow villager over stolen donkeys

Police in Gokwe have arrested two men in connection with a chilling attempted murder case that erupted in Gokwe South after a dispute over stolen donkeys.

Methulise Sibanda (36) and Dingani Maziyonge were apprehended following a violent attack that took place on December 29, 2025, at Mqulu Village in Mkoka, Gokwe South.

According to police, the pair allegedly acted in concert with seven other suspects who remain at large.

Investigations reveal that the group descended on the complainant armed with machetes, axes and logs, launching a coordinated assault that nearly turned fatal.

The attack is said to have been sparked by accusations that one of the suspects, Milton Moyo, had stolen 17 donkeys livestock that were later recovered.

However, the situation quickly spiralled out of control when the suspects allegedly forcefully reclaimed the recovered donkeys during the violent confrontation.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects identified as Brigton Sibanda, Prosper Moyo, Ndabezihle Ndlovu, Casper Sibanda, Pry Ncube and Trust Ncube.
