Harare – The People’s Unity Party (PUP) today unveiled a bold new vision for Zimbabwe’s future, calling for a grand national consensus to tackle the country’s pressing economic and social challenges.
Addressing a press conference at Batanai Garden, PUP’s Secretary General Dr. PV Mukuchamano read a statement on behalf of Party President Herbert Chamuka, who emphasized the need for a fundamental shift in governance.
“The season for endless political trench warfare must end. The hour for a grand national consensus has arrived,” Dr. Mukuchamano quoted Chamuka as saying.
Chamuka’s statement outlined four pillars for the new path: genuine national unity and reconciliation, inclusive governance for effective leadership, economic transformation for shared prosperity, and a five-year National Stability and Recovery Pact.
“The challenges we face are too complex for any single party to solve alone. We need a model where the legitimate government exercises its authority by coordinating, not excluding, the best minds from across our society”.
Chamuka called on all Zimbabweans to join the PUP’s quest for a prosperous, just, and dignified nation, saying, “We are ready to walk this new path. I invite every Zimbabwean of goodwill to join me.”
The press conference was attended by senior PUP officials, civil society leaders, and members of the fourth estate representing different media houses.
The PUP’s initiative comes amid growing concerns about Zimbabwe’s economic stagnation and political polarization.
