Police mum on Uebert Angel alleged sex crimes

Police have remained tight-lipped over swirling reports that Spirit Embassy founder Uebert Angel has been accused of indecent sexual assault.

When contacted over the weekend, police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he was not in the office and could not comment on the matter.

It has emerged that a case of indecent sexual assault was reported at Borrowdale Police Station on Monday under case number RRB 6756222.

In that case, a 40-year-old woman from Bulawayo (name withheld) alleged that she was sexually assaulted by Angel in his office at his Hippodrome church in March last year.

She had reportedly attended one of the services, during which Angel spoke to her off the microphone and asked her to meet him in his office after the service.

After they exchanged numbers, Angel asked her to return the following day and instructed her to dress modestly.

She is said to have complied without giving it much thought.

Once in his office, Angel inquired about her problems, and she shared her difficulties with him.

He allegedly pulled an envelope containing US$1,000 from a pile of envelopes filled with tithes collected the previous day, offering it to her as assistance.

As she was about to leave, Angel allegedly pushed her against the wall, lifted her dress, caressed her buttocks, and sexually assaulted her.

He removed her trousers and attempted to have intercourse with her, only stopping when she protested that he could not proceed without protection.

After the incident, she confided in her cousin, who subsequently called Angel to confront him.

He apologised, but the woman reportedly continues to cry and speak about her ordeal whenever she drinks.

Her case was reported with the assistance of Jay Israel, a former associate of Angel.

According to sources, Angel began sending threats to the Bulawayo woman and to Israel.

He allegedly had several individuals reach out to her, threatening her with arrest and disappearance.

To Israel, he sent a graphic image of blood and a video of acid simmering in a drum, along with messages indicating his intent to dissolve him in acid.

Since the reports were made, sources within Angel’s camp have revealed that he has been restless and is attempting to solicit support from various individuals.

With the help of his allies, Angel is alleged to have sought a meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who reportedly gave him a cold reception.

The objective of the meeting, sources disclosed, was for Angel to take photos with the president, which could then be leaked to suggest he remains in good standing with the government, in the hope that the police report would fade away.

“Right now, Angel’s team is boasting that they will bribe the police,” a source said.

“They are saying these reports will die a natural death, and senior police officers will block the investigation. The team also claims they will pay off the victims to prevent them from pursuing the matters.”

They are also boasting that they will use the police and social media campaign to turn the case against Israel.

Ordinarily, if a complaint is made, a person should be arrested and cleared by the courts.

Angel is no stranger to controversy.

Last year, rapper Holy Ten publicly attacked him, accusing him of being a womaniser who solicited women from him.

Holy Ten made these claims during an episode of the DJ Ollah 7 podcast, further alleging that Angel had solicited women, including some from South Africa. Standard
