ZHRC to investigate distribution of Presidential inputs at night
The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) has condemned the nocturnal distribution of Presidential Inputs in Ward 4, Nyazvidzi Gutu that saw villagers waiting at distribution points until midnight before they got their allocations.
ZHRC chairperson, Jessie Majome said the process was a clear violation of the Constitution of Zimbabwe and her organisation will investigate Agritex and Ward 4 Councilor, Tawanda Mutare for the incident.
She also expressed concern that some bags of fertiliser were allegedly not distributed and left in the truck without being accounted for. She said that the process violated Section 51of the Constitution which is the right to human dignity.
Villagers lost their dignity and self esteem when they were forced to wait the whole day for their allocations. Section 52 which is the right to security was violated particularly for women who had to walk back home at night risking dangers including sexual abuse.
The councilor and Agritex also violated Section 68 which is the right to administrative justice where citizens are entitled to prompt, efficient, fair administrative service. Commissioner Majome further condemned Agritex and Mutare for forcing beneficiaries of aid to pay US$1 each for transport.
Masvingo Provincial Secretary for Devolution, Addmore Pazvavakavambwa warned councillors against distributing Gov aid at night and said his office was also definitely going to investigate the Ward 4 case. *_-Masvingo Mirror_*
