“Drunk” Police Officer Murders Suspect By Slicing Chin And Cheek

A police officer stationed in Chimanimani has appeared in court facing a murder charge after allegedly slicing a suspect’s chin and cheek while under the influence of alcohol.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said that on 25 February 2026, Bhekimpilo Ncube (35), who was in charge of the Chikukwa Police Base, received a report that Godman Mtimba (34), who is now deceased, had been behaving violently in the area.

Prosecutors say that the following day, Mtimba was apprehended and taken to Chikukwa Business Centre, where Ncube was reportedly drinking beer.

It is alleged that Ncube then tried to remove Mtimba’s beard using a knife, but cut him on the chin and cheek, leaving him with serious injuries. He later rushed Mtimba to Mutambara Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

After Mtimba died, Ncube surrendered himself to the police. He remains in custody while the case goes through the courts.
