Amnesty beneficiary jailed 4 years for vehicle theft
A man released on Presidential Amnesty has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison after being convicted of stealing a car, a cellphone and US$1 800 nine days after gaining his freedom.
Benjamin Manyangadze (20) was sentenced by Kwekwe Magistrate Naison Dhambuza last Thursday.
The sentence is inclusive of a year long term that was initially suspended when Manyangadze was sentenced for a similar crime in 2023.
Manyangadze was ordered to restitute Tawanda Godfrey Magure US$2800.
The theft happened on March 11, 2026, in Redcliff around 5pm.
Circumstances are that Manyangadze broke into Magure’s home while he was away. He stole a Peugeot motor vehicle registration number AGY 1389, US$1 800 cash, a Tecno mobile phone and other items.
Magure reported the theft to Police when he discovered the theft.
Detectives spotted the stolen vehicle along the Chinhoyi-Chegutu road on March 17, and notified ZRP Murombedzi.
Manyangadze was intercepted and subsequently arrested at Murombedzi Business Centre.
The vehicle and Tecno mobile phone were recovered. *_-Masvingo Mirror_*
