Ngezi Platinum Stars coach felt pleased to escape defeat as they settled for a 1-1 draw with Triangle United in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League duel at Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro Ngezi on Saturday.

After surviving countless attacks in the opening half, Ngezi surged ahead when Gomezgani Chirwa headed a cross from Tanaka Munemo in the 57th minute

Triangle, who could have taken the lead had Emmanuel Paga not fluffed numerous chances, restored parity with a beautiful shot that substitute Stephen Zhogi placed beyond the reach of stretched Ngezi goalie Darlington Musariranwa.

In a post-match interview, Kumbirai Muti who expressed gratitude for how Murasiranwa saved them from the jaws of defeat attributed the below-par performance produced by his boys to complacency and fatigue

” The boys were complacent. They underestimated our opponents’ capability not knowing that Triangle had done everything for this game.”

“It’s our first game to drop points at home. It’s a setback but a plus in the sense that we did not lose”

” Also the effect of our midweek game was noticeable.”

” The boys did not perform as they do. We did not create scoring opportunities especially in the first half though we returned in the second more purposeful,” said Muti

Triangle gaffer Lloyd Chitembwe who seems to have transformed the sugarcane farmers in a short period since his appointment two weeks ago, credited his boys for the point they collected

“We will go back to Chiredzi proud. We have something to cheer us though we could have easily won the game but unfortunately, Paga was not on song”

In the second minute, Paga received a neat pass from Thabani Kamusoko and skied his effort.

Ten minutes later dreadlocked Paga had another clear scoring chance but impressive Musariranwa thwarted his attempt
