ICT Minister Mavetera holds lavish 40th birthday bash; Tagwirei keeps his gift a ‘closely guarded secret’, ducks social media ‘jury’

HARARE — Business mogul and ZANU PF Central Committee member Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei on Tuesday night joined several high-profile guests at the 40th birthday celebrations for ICT Minister, Hon. Tatenda Mavetera, in Harare,Express Mail Zim can report.
Dr Tagwirei delivered off the cuff remarks chronicling part of Minister Mavetera’s journey. He however deliberately withheld details of the birthday gift he and his wife had prepared for the Minister, whom he described as “someone I can look up to when things are down and when they are going well.”
He also noted that Minister Mavetera attends his family events, including his son’s recent wedding, where “she had to rush after a business trip.”
On the gift, Dr Tagwirei said: “Mangwana mopfuura nekubasa moona maiguru, motaura navo moona zvatakakugadzirirai, tavakutya social media inotikanganisira zvinhu zvakanaka.”
(“Tomorrow pass through our offices and see and discuss with my wife to find out what is in store for you, we are now afraid of social media which spoils good things.”)
He spoke jokingly while deliberately withholding details of the gift.
Retracing Minister Mavetera’s working life from her time on Zimbabwe’s first soapie Studio 263 (where she played Tendai Jari), Dr Tagwirei said: “After Studio 263, she became a money changer and I see a lot of faces that changed money with her in this room. That was the period 2005-2009 thereabouts. It was her first job where she was hustling.”
He insinuated that Minister Mavetera overcame barriers in a presumably male dominated society to rise through hard work and determination.
The event was attended by ZANU PF national chairman Oppah Muchinguri -Kashiri, Cabinet Ministers, senior Government officials, business leaders and associates.
