Car gifted to Jah Bobo by Wicknell Chivayo smashed by alleged thieves

Zimbabwean musician Jah Bobo says the Toyota Yaris he received as a gift from controversial businessman and convicted fraudster Wicknell Chivayo two years ago has been vandalised after it was allegedly targeted by thieves.

Posting on social media on Monday, Jah Bobo shared photographs showing the vehicle with a smashed rear side window. Shattered safety glass can be seen scattered across the back seat, while the door frame around the broken window also appears to have sustained damage.

In his post, the musician wrote in Shona:

“Ndavingwa pamba ndikapwanyirwa mota nevarume. Vashanu ndapona nekudedzera.”

Translated into English, the statement means:

“I was followed home and my car was smashed by a group of men. There were five of them and I survived by shouting for help.”

Jah Bobo did not immediately identify the suspects or state whether anything was stolen from inside the vehicle. It also remains unclear whether the matter has been formally reported to police.

The damaged vehicle is the same Toyota Yaris that Jah Bobo publicly acknowledged receiving from Wicknell Chivayo in February 2024. At the time, he thanked Chivayo on Facebook, writing:

“Thank you Sir Wicknell Chivayo… Mudzviyo tanawo SUIT PLUG.”

A month later, he again praised Chivayo, describing him as someone helping artists and members of the public.

The latest incident triggered widespread reactions on social media, with some users expressing sympathy for the musician while others speculated about the motive behind the attack. However, none of those claims have been independently verified.

Photographs shared by Jah Bobo show extensive damage to one of the vehicle’s windows, with broken glass covering the rear passenger seat.

There has been no immediate comment from police regarding the alleged attack, and no arrests have been announced.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available. *_-ZimEye_*
