15 cars Chivayo gave away “still not paid for” as dealer waits on late businessman’s estate, leaving Sugar Sugar’s Fortuner in limbo

Sungura musician Taruvinga Manjokota, popularly known as Sugar Sugar, says he came close to losing the Toyota Fortuner given to him by the late businessman Wicknell Chivayo, after the car dealer that supplied the vehicle allegedly demanded it back.

The musician told ZBC News that he received calls on Monday while performing at a show in Chinhoyi. Because he was on stage, he missed them, and the message was passed on to him later that night through his manager.

According to Manjokota, he was told to return the vehicle to the car dealer by 10 am on Wednesday. If he failed to do so, the dealer warned, the matter would be reported to the police.

Manjokota said his first instinct was to comply and hand the car back. However, both his manager and his promoter advised him not to.

The owner of Enterprise Car Sales, Madzibaba Tendai Chipaga, has since given a different account. He said no vehicle had been demanded back for now.

Chipaga told ZBC News that about 15 vehicles supplied to Chivayo had not yet been paid for, and that the matter was on hold until Chivayo’s estate is finalised.

For now, it appears Manjokota will keep the Fortuner. However, his hold on the vehicle may ultimately depend on how Chivayo’s estate is settled, and on whether the outstanding payments to the dealer are made.

Manjokota’s windfall came on the back of his viral hit “Todya Mudododo”. On 10 September 2026, Chivayo announced that he was giving the musician a brand-new Toyota Fortuner and US$10,000 in cash, saying he had been inspired after watching his own children dance to the song.

Chivayo later added a further US$30,000 after Manjokota posted a social media video praising him, President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zimbabwe. That brought the musician’s total cash reward to US$40,000, on top of the vehicle.

The dealer’s account appears to contradict Chivayo’s repeated public assurances, when handing over cars to celebrities, that each vehicle had been “fully paid for”.

Chivayo was killed on 30 September when a helicopter came down at Kudenga Farm in the Marondera area. His wife and three other people also died in the crash.

The couple were buried side by side at Glen Forest Cemetery in Harare on 8 October. Chivayo was declared a provincial hero.
