Power of unity — Chipinge residents disarm, nab armed robber
Police in Chipinge have arrested a 30-year-old man, Romeo Manyondo, in connection with an alleged armed robbery at Southdowns Bus Stop on 31 July 2026.
According to police, Manyondo was apprehended by members of the public while allegedly attempting to escape after the robbery incident, in which a bus conductor and loader were reportedly robbed of US$440 and a cellphone.
The suspect was handed over to police, who recovered the stolen money and mobile phone.
Police also recovered several items allegedly linked to the robbery, including an air gun, catapult, axe, pliers, three spanners and a screwdriver.
The incident has highlighted the role played by residents in assisting law enforcement officers in responding to criminal activities within communities.
