South African Truck Driver Fined And Deported After Pulling Okapi Knife On Border Agent
A South African truck driver has been fined US$160 and deported by the Beitbridge Magistrates Court after threatening to stab a Zimborders agent who told him to park his truck properly.
Gcwalisiwe Nkomo (45), who is employed by Eagle Truck Logistics, appeared before Beitbridge Magistrate Gillian Padzakashambwa on Wednesday.
The court heard that the incident happened on Sunday at around 3 am at the Beitbridge Border Post South Bound Terminal.
Nkomo was instructed by Paul Muzumbani, a Zimborders customer service agent, to park his truck properly to allow other trucks to pass as he was blocking the way.
This allegedly did not go down well with Nkomo, who replied in a loud voice that he had been instructed to park there by a ZIMRA official.
An argument ensued, and Nkomo allegedly went to his truck, retrieved an okapi knife, opened it and threatened to kill Muzumbani while pointing it at him.
Muzumbani reported the matter to security officers who were on patrol. The officers searched Nkomo and recovered an okapi knife, leading to his arrest. –
