CAB 03 ‘Now Visibly in Motion’ as 10 New Senators Are Appointed

By Desire Tshuma

Harare – The appointment of 10 new senators under the CAB 03 framework has sparked fresh discussion, with only three of those named previously known to have publicly spoken in support of the constitutional amendment.

According to a list in circulation, the newly appointed senators are: Jabulani Sibanda, Mary Mliswa, Nokhutula Matsikenyere, Kudakwashe Tagwirei, Godwills Masimirembwa, Lucy Chitaga, General Gibson Mashingaidze, Makhosini Hlongwane, Brilliant Dube and Irene Mutumba.

Political analyst Dr Abigale Mupambi weighed in on the debate, acknowledging concerns but striking an optimistic tone on the process moving forward.

“The remaining appointments have raised questions about whether some beneficiaries are simply products of political convenience rather than consistent advocates of CAB 03,” Dr Mupambi said.

She added: “Whats important is that CAB O3 is now visibly in Motion! , the future is what we now look forward to.”

CAB 03, which amended presidential term limits among other provisions, was one of the most debated constitutional processes in recent years. Its implementation is now entering a new phase with a reconstituted Senate expected to play a key role in aligning legislation with the amendments.

Government has said the appointments reflect a mix of experience, gender balance, and expertise needed to drive the national agenda.

As the new senators take their seats, public attention will focus on how the upper house shapes policy and oversight in line with the constitutional changes.
