Trustee Murdered and Medical Donations Stolen
A community in Norton is mourning the loss of Mai Chipo, a local tuckshop owner who was murdered around midnight on Friday during an armed robbery at her home. The attackers stabbed her in the stomach before fleeing with an unspecified amount of cash.
Mai Chipo was safeguarding $10,000 USD raised for 21-year-old Luckmore Rice, who needs life-changing eye surgery in India. Her death has thrown the future of Luckmore’s medical treatment into uncertainty, as it remains unclear how much of the donated funds were stolen.
Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Ian Kohwera was unavailable for comment, and investigations into the attack are ongoing.
