Chiredzi – Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe officially opened its doors in Chiredzi, marking a major expansion into the lowveld and signalling strong confidence in the townโ€™s booming agricultural and commercial economy.

The new branch, launched on 08 September 2026, becomes Stanbicโ€™s 20th branch nationally and comes with 55 ATMs across the country, a 24-hour ATM and Cash Deposit Machine to ensure clients can bank anytime.

Stanbic Bank Chief Executive Solomon Nyanhongo said the move reflects the bankโ€™s commitment to driving Zimbabweโ€™s growth from the grassroots.
โ€œIt is our distinctive commitment to drive Zimbabweโ€™s growth, and we recognise Chiredzi as a strategic economic hub with strong agricultural, commercial and entrepreneurial potential,โ€ Nyanhongo said.

The bank first began serving Chiredzi and surrounding communities in September 2025. Nyanhongo said the warm reception and growing client base encouraged the decision to establish a full branch.
โ€œWe are here to support growth, unlock opportunities and contribute meaningfully to the success of this community. Our presence here reflects our devotion to bringing banking services closer to our clients,โ€ he said.

The Chiredzi branch offers both traditional banking and digital solutions, allowing individuals, SMEs, corporates and farmers to transact securely and conveniently. Nyanhongo added that financial inclusion remains a key priority for Stanbic Bank.
โ€œWhen individuals and businesses can conveniently access financial services, they are empowered to save, invest, trade and grow,โ€ he said.

Stanbic Bank Head of Personal and Private Banking, Nelson Muhau, said the investment was about bringing world-class financial services closer to the people.
โ€œThis branch reflects Stanbic Bankโ€™s commitment to deepening financial inclusion, supporting entrepreneurship, and providing convenient access to innovative banking solutions. We recognise the important role that Chiredzi plays in Zimbabweโ€™s agricultural, commercial and industrial landscape,โ€ Muhau said.

Chiredzi Chairperson Councillor Jameson Charumbira hailed the opening as a landmark for the municipality.
โ€œFor a town to sustain this level of growth, it requires strong financial pillars. The arrival of Stanbic Bank complements in filling critical gaps, injecting fresh capital, fostering competition and providing our residents with the financial tools they need. We view Stanbic Bank not just as a financial institution, but also as a strategic development partner,โ€ Charumbira said.

Charumbira said local authorities will continue to provide the requisite infrastructure for sustainable business operations in Chiredzi, and noted that the bankโ€™s presence was a catalyst for financial inclusion and development, which are key pillars of the National Development Strategy 2.

With the Chiredzi launch, Stanbic Bank continues its push to take world-class banking services closer to high-growth economic centres beyond Harare and Bulawayo.
