SUPERBOY RETURNS TO RESCUE MBARE BOXING

HARARE — Veteran boxing coach Murambiwa Steven Chidziva, known as Superboy, has returned from South Africa to rebuild All Stars Boxing Academy in Mbare and develop young boxers into competitive athletes.

Chidziva said his focus is to provide structured training for youths in Mbare and steer them away from drug and substance abuse.

He said Mbare has abundant boxing talent but lacks facilities, equipment, exposure and financial support needed to progress from amateur level to elite competition.

His immediate plan is to revive All Stars Boxing Academy and establish a disciplined training environment where young boxers can develop skills under proper mentorship.

“Boxing can change lives. We want to give young people something positive to focus on and help them discover their talents,” Chidziva said.

“We want to produce top-class athletes who can compete at the highest level, but at the same time we want to use boxing to teach discipline, hard work and responsibility.”

Chidziva said the academy will also serve as an intervention against drug and substance abuse by giving youths a constructive alternative and channelling their energy into sport.

He said lack of funding remains the biggest obstacle facing boxing development, with clubs struggling to secure quality equipment, training facilities and competition opportunities.

He has appealed to the corporate sector, organisations, individuals and well-wishers to support grassroots boxing.

“Talent alone is not enough. Our boxers need proper equipment, training, exposure and opportunities to compete. If we get the necessary support, I believe Zimbabwean boxers can reach the same level as boxers from other countries in the region,” he said.

Chidziva also wants All Stars to produce fighters capable of representing Zimbabwe at regional and international competitions.

He said the project is not only about reopening a gym but rebuilding a pipeline of talent in Mbare.
