Zimbabwean businessman Mudzinganyama faces 10 charges over viral threats to kill 3 women in SA
Zimbabwean businessman Lawrence Mudzinganyama, 40, now faces 10 charges after an incident in which he allegedly threatened to kill a group of women at a restaurant in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Mudzinganyama was arrested on 20 September 2026 at Randburg Police Station over an alleged incident at Vlamo Restaurant in Randburg. He was initially released on a warning on a charge of intimidation, but after further investigations โ including witness statements and video footage โ the State added more charges.
He is now facing three counts of intimidation, three counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, three counts of crimen injuria and one count of fraud, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said.
The case began after a video that went viral on social media showed Mudzinganyama threatening a group of women who had reportedly rejected his advances.
In the clips, he is heard boasting about his wealth and saying: โI could put a bullet in you now. I do not play. I will murder you now and walk.โ
According to the NPA, the crimen injuria charges relate to allegations that he insulted the complainants and impaired their dignity by calling them a derogatory name in front of other people.
The fraud charge relates to an allegation that he falsely told witnesses he was the owner of Vlamo Restaurant, when he knew he was not.
After the video emerged, Mudzinganyama apologised.
โI apologise unreservedly to the women involved in the recent incident at Vlamo restaurant in Sandton,โ he said.
โI should have walked away and asked the restaurantโs management for help. I did not, and I accept responsibility for my words and conduct.โ
Mudzinganyama appeared in the Randburg Magistrateโs Court earlier this month and was released on R15,000 bail.
The NPA said it has given the defence the contents of the docket and the matter has been transferred to the Regional Court at Randburg for further proceedings.
The defence requested more time to consult with the accused. The case was postponed to 30 October 2026 for a trial date to be set, with bail extended until his next appearance.
