….Now I’m Working With Lady Gaga

Makhadzi’s producer Mr Brown has lamented the lack of support from fellow Zimbabweans despite raising the country’s flag high.

Mr Brown, real name Lynol Siwela, was born in Gweru, Zimbabwe but migrated to South Africa in search of better opportunities. And better opportunities he got, as he is now signed to label Open Mic Productions.

Mr Brown has produced most of Makhadzi’s songs, including Milandu Bhe, Murahu and MaGear, to which he has also lent vocals. The 32-year-old beatmaker has also worked on other hits like Lazaro by Winnie Khumalo, Skeleton Move by Master KG, Nomcebo’s Xola Moya Wami, and Mang’dakiwe Remix by DJ Obza and Leon Lee.

Over the weekend, Mr Brown was on set with US-based Senegalese musician Akon, revealing that they were shooting a music video. He shared the pictures on Instagram, and one Zimbabwean commented that Mr Brown and Akon are not facially appealing.

Mr Brown did not take the jab well and decried that Zimbabweans never show him support. He said:

“As we speak, I am working with Lady Gaga while my people drag me. I will keep doing my best. I never got treatment like this in South Africa. People here love me the way I am. In my own country, I’m taunted like a dog.”

The comment had been deleted at the time of publishing, but Nash TV got a screenshot of the conversation.

Some Zimbabweans on Facebook agreed with Mr Brown’s sentiments.

“I think as a country, we need to heal guys from whatever forms of abuse we endure. We need to heal coz under a bad omen.”

Shylene:

“It’s so sad. We get to appreciate most of our talent after they achieve something out there, and it’s so pathetic.”

Enias:

“Hunger makes them do that.”

Diamond:

“True, Zimbabweans sometimes give the stage to people like Passion Java, ignoring people working hard in the music industry. You spend the whole day hyping silly songs by DJ Tawaz, and that’s disrespecting artists.”
