The Northern Region Division One Soccer League has postponed its 2023 league fixtures – which were set to kick off this week – to the first day of April, it has been learnt.

In a communique, the league’s board cited the unavailability of match officials who will attending a Zifa Referees Course.

“We are in receipt of correspondence from the Zifa Referees Committee Northern Region, wherein we have been advised of the Referees Course running from 17-19 March 2023.
Consequently, therefore we have been forced to shift our programs, in order to accommodate the Referees Course.
Be advised as follows:
League commencement date now 1 April 2023 ”
reads the communique, directed to all clubs.

The league’s board has also advised clubs affiliated to them of the date for this season’s Annual General Meeting.

“AGM now set for 25 March 2023.”

The postponement of the 2023 Northern Region Division One Soccer League is a welcome development as clubs will have ample time to fine tune their charges ahead of the gruelling dog-eat-dog fight for the sole ticket to the domestic topflight football.
