LEAD president Linda Masarira Nomination Hearing At High Court Date Set

The High Court Of Zimbabwe has set July 24 2023 date for Linda Tsungirirai Masarira judgement for her appeal against her nomination rejection by Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to pay nomination fees in Real Time Gross Transfer System (RTGS).
Linda experienced difficulties in effecting payments of the nomination fees largely due to the current banking challenges within the financial services sector. Her appeal is mainly based on the decision by the nomination court to reject her nomination as a candidate for the election to the office of the president.
The nomination court that sat on 21 June 2023 in the High Court, court A , the applicant, Lead president Linda Masarira highlighted that the responded erred in rejecting the applicant’s RTGS method of payment insisting that the appelent pays in United States Dollar or using ZIPIT platform.
The appelant bank’s platform permits a limit of Z$2,500 000 per month and her card limit was Z$1,500 000 00 per day. After the third respondent issued a press statement on 22 June 2023 noting with concern reports to the effect that the prospective candidates were disqualified from lodging their papers on account difficulties experienced in the effecting payments of nomination fees largely due to the current challenges within the banking system, calling upon the affected candidates to approach the respective nomination court not later than 1600hrs on 22 June 2023.
Meanwhile United Zimbabwe Alliance president Elizabeth Valerio who also filed the similar case to the High Court has today won her appeal. She is at the meantime the first lady to successfully contest for the office of president in Zimbabwe.
