The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has made a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of Tinashe Edson Chitsunge, a supporter of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

They have announced the arrest of ten suspects in relation to this tragic incident.

In a statement, the Police said:

Reference is made to the Glennorah violence which occurred on 03/08/23 resulting in the death of Tinashe Edson Chitsunge. ZRP confirms that 10 suspects have now been arrested and are assisting the Police with investigations.

Many social media users praised the swift action taken by the police in response to the update.

With only 19 days remaining until the general elections, the Glen View community finds itself once again enveloped in the grim grip of political violence.

In a devastating turn of events, Tinashe Chitsunge, a fervent supporter of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) fell victim to a brutal act of violence on Thursday, as he was mercilessly stoned to death in Glen Norah, Harare.

Preliminary investigations point to individuals believed to be supporters of the ZANU PF party as the perpetrators of this appalling crime.

Following Chitsunge’s death, the Police released a statement saying:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms an incident of public violence in the Riverside area, Glennorah near Tanaka Grounds, Harare on 03rd August 2023 at 1300 hours.

One person is confirmed dead as a result of the clashes. The scene is being attended by all relevant Police sections. A detailed statement will be issued in due course.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa officially declared that Zimbabwe will hold its presidential and parliamentary elections on August 23.

Following the announcement, political parties participating in the elections wasted no time and swiftly initiated their respective campaign activities.
