The Chandler Bing actor has died at the age of 54

Emergency services were called to a ‘water emergency’ at the LA home of Friends star Matthew Perry, who has died at the age of 54. The Chandler Bing actor was reportedly found unresponsive in a hot tub.

Los Angeles Police received a 911 call at 4.07pm local time (12.07am UK time) after Perry’s assistant returned from an errand and raised the alarm. The incident was initially described as a ‘water emergency’ by the Los Angeles Fire Department, according to the Mirror.

His representative later told NBC news he had died in an apparent drowning. Police have said there was no apparent foul play and no confirmed cause of death as an investigation gets under way.

Just days before his tragic death, Perry shared a photo of himself posing in his hot tub on Instagram. He captured the final snap: “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good?”

Perry’s Friends co-star Maggie Wheeler, who played Janice in the hit sitcom, was among the first to share tributes. She wrote: “What a loss. The world will miss you Mathew Perry. The joy you brought to so many in your too short lifetime will live on. I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared.”

His close friend Selma Blair has since said she “loved him unconditionally”, while Shannen Doherty said their friendship had “spanned a lifetime”. Paget Brewster, played Kathy during her stint on Friends, wrote: “I’m so very sad to hear about Matthew Perry. He was lovely to me on Friends and every time I saw him in the decades after. Please read his book. It was his legacy to help. He won’t rest in peace though.. He’s already too busy making everyone laugh up there.”
