Police arrest murder suspects at ritual ceremony

Police in Kwekwe rounded and arrested four murder suspects while they were at a ritual ceremony in a witchdoctor’s house where they were seeking help to conceal the murder case.

Police Officer Commanding Kwekwe District Chief Superintendent Ison Chapeta who could not immediately disclose the names of the suspects following the arrest said the four were now in police custody assisting with investigations.

He said police got a tip off that the four who had a dispute over ownership of a mine in Silobela with the deceased, killed their victim on 1 December before they went into hiding.

They then went and sought cleansing and assistance from a local witchdoctor in Kwekwe yesterday.

“The suspects killed their victim in Silobela and police got a tip off that the four were in Mbizo 4 Extension at a witchdoctor’s house where they sought to have some cleansing and have their case concealed,” said Chief Sup Chapeta.

He said police then found the four at a ritual ceremony with the witchdoctor and arrested them.

Chief Sup Chapeta said what was worrisome to the police was that three of the suspects were teenagers who should be in school.

“Of the four suspects, three are aged 19 and the other one is aged 20. All of them should be in school and we will be going around conducting awareness campaigns against crime while urging parents to send their children to school,” he said.
