CZI Ordered To Pay Rita Lunga-Mbatha US$47K For Unfair Dismissal

In a lengthy legal battle spanning two decades, Rita Marque Lunga-Mbatha, a former employee of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI), emerged victorious once again, securing a US$47,850.01 settlement for unfair dismissal.

This marks Lunga-Mbatha’s second triumph, following a 2003 sexual harassment case against her former boss, Farai Zizhou, the then CEO of CZI, which resulted in a US$180,000 compensation and Zizhou losing a huge house in Hatfield, Harare.

In her recent case, Lunga-Mbatha had initially sought $500,000 from CZI. High Court Justice Gladys Mhuri, in a judgment dated January 16, 2024, awarded her $47,850.01 for unfair dismissal, adding to the $180,000 she had previously won for the sexual harassment incident.

Reflecting on her legal journey, Lunga-Mbatha acknowledged the challenges she faced. She revealed that after winning the sexual harassment lawsuit in 2003, she was unfairly dismissed from her job.
