Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Marian Chombo urged the business community to partner with Chegutu Pirates and extensively renovate Pfupajena Stadium as they stand to benefit if the ground is approved  to host Premier League games

Addressing a gathering celebrating Chegutu Pirates’ victory at TP Rukawo Motel’s conference hall on Friday,  Chombo said besides players’ physical well-being the team has a great impact on the community for both social cohesion and economic growth.

“Bringing the Premier league to Chegutu means business opportunities are at our doorstep. ”

“Chegutu stands to benefit more from hosting home games at Pfupajena Stadium than playing games away from home”

“It is my clarion call on the business community to realize the opportunity presented so they partner with Chegutu Pirates and capitalize on home matches to boost their businesses,” said Chombo

The Minister however enlightened the packed hall that there is a need for sound financial sponsorship to bankroll a  team affiliated to the domestic Premiership.

“The Premier Soccer League requires massive capital injection against other competing key service delivery issues such as provision of water, roads and refuse removal.”

“Operational costs have been pegged at around a million United States dollars while Pfupajena stadium upgrade requires an estimated  US$500 000 for it to be homologated.”

Chegutu’s geographical location coupled with its proximity to capital cities and mining from surrounding areas makes the town a hive of activity.

The farming and mining town is approximately  107km south of Harare along the Harare to Bulawayo Highway.

It is linked to Mashwest Provincial capital Chinhoyi by the Beitbridge to Chirundu road.
