By Edward Makuzva
FORUS Party President Manyara Irene Muyenziwa has issued a stern condemnation of the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Zimbabwe sparked by land barons. In a press statement, Muyenziwa expressed deep concern over the destruction of homes in various provinces, including Masvingo, Matebeleland North, Matebeleland South, and Mashonaland, due to the proliferation of illegal settlements orchestrated by land barons.
Muyenziwa’s words echoed the distressing reality faced by many Zimbabweans: “The situation unfolding in our country is nothing short of a tragedy. Families are being torn apart, communities are being uprooted, and lives are being shattered as a result of ruthless actions of these land barons.”
The FORUS Party leader underscored the urgency for the government to prioritize the welfare of its citizens and take immediate action to address the crisis: “The government must act decisively to put an end to the suffering inflicted on innocent Zimbabweans by these land barons. We cannot stand idly by while our people are subjected to such injustices.”
Muyenziwa drew attention to the dire consequences of the illegal settlements, including loss of lives during flash floods in unsuitable areas like wetlands, while criticizing the lack of accountability and transparency in the land sector: “We urge the government to act swiftly and decisively to protect the rights and dignity of our citizens. We will not rest until justice is served and the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.”
FORUS Party demanded urgent government intervention to address the crisis, calling for the regularization of illegal settlements, prosecution of all perpetrators regardless of political affiliations, and the implementation of clear policies to prevent further exploitation of land.
“We stand in solidarity with the affected citizens and pledge to continue fighting for their rights and dignity. We urge Zimbabweans to remain vigilant and resist the tactics of land barons, while calling on civil society to support the quest for justice and security,” Muyenziwa emphasized.
FORUS Party, known for its progressive and democratic values, aims to transform Zimbabwe into a prosperous and inclusive nation under Muyenziwa’s leadership. The party’s press statement serves as a heartfelt appeal for immediate action to address the humanitarian crisis caused by land barons in the country.
