Chikurubi Maximum Prison’s OI Clinic officially opens

Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Douglas Mombeshora Friday officially opened Chikurubi Maximum Prison OI clinic which was built by AIDS Health Care Foundation in partnership with the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) to address health care needs of inmates and prison officers together with their beneficiaries.

The official opening was graced by top government officials that included senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Commissioner general ZPCS Moses Chihobvu, representatives from the Ministry of Defence, representative from AIDS Health Care Foundation, senior Chikurubi Maximum Prison Ol Clinic officers and families of prison officers.

“We are gathered at this center of excellence courtesy of the benevolence of AIDS Health Care Foundation who partnered with the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services in construction of this clinic. Investing in health care infrastructure is a direct investment in the socio-economic progression of communities and the country at large,” said Dr Mombeshora.

“The setting up such an establishment is a welcome rehabilitation of offenders and their suscessful reintergration back to their communities where they are expected to live as productive and law-abiding citizens upon completion of their sentences.”

He concluded by appreciating AHF for their involvement in capacitating health care facilities in Zimbabwe.

AHF began it’s operations in Zimbabwe in September 2016 and has set up centers of excellence in Parirenyatwa, Mpilo, Sally Mugabe and Gweru hospitals. It is providing health care and treatment services in 45 countries worldwide, with 13 from Africa  among them Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia.
