Kadoma Council dismisses cholera rumours

The Kadoma City Council has dismissed as false rumours of cholera related deaths in the City.

Council’s Health Department director Dr Daniel Chirundu said  people were over exaggerating the scenario in Kadoma as it stands.

“Yes cholera is there and the city, like other cities in Zimbabwe, has fallen prey to this pandemic. However, the situation is not as dire as what the general public is saying through social media platforms,” Dr Chirundu said.

“The department as of 12 April, 2024 has recorded 14 deaths since January. Eight deaths are of people who died at the Kadoma Cholera Treatment Center whilst six of the deaths are community related. We only recorded 14 deaths between January to April.

“Whatever huge numbers circulating pertaining to cholera-related deaths is a lie at it’s best,”  he said.

The City as of 12 April has recorded a total of: Cumulative admissions 487, cumulative in triage 1470. The highly affected surbubs are Rimuka, Pix-Kombie and Waverly.

“This is because of population density there probably with undesirable sanitation,” Dr Chirundu said.

Kadoma City Health Department has been working around the clock to curb the spread of cholera in the City. It has embarked on cholera awareness and education campaigns to help the community curb the spread of cholera in the City. Religious leaders have also been engaged by the department to help their adherents.

Although cholera cases are increasing by the day in the City, the health team and residents are working hand in glove tirelessly to outride this pandemic.
