Former David Whitehead Textile Spinning Division workers in Kadoma who have attained the pensionable age are getting a raw deal from the former giant textile company as their employment records are not available to them to register with National Social Security Authority, it has been learnt.

The textile company is now under Agri-value Chain (AVC) after it acquired a controlling stake in the textile firm.

Isaac Phiri, who recently turned 60 years said that he had visited the Kadoma plant to have his National Social Security Authority records but for the past fortnight he has found no joy from the company’s Human Resources Department’s Silas Kuveya.

“I have been going to DWTL Spinning Division in Kadoma where I worked and I wanted my records from them so that I can start getting my pension benefits from NSSA. But everytime I get there I face numerous excuses from the Human Resources Manager’s department,” Phiri said.

“The last time I got there I had to leave my NSSA number, my documents that I had worked here but I don’t know if I am going to get joy.”

Another former employee, Henry Saimon, said that he has been visiting DWTL for a month in search of his NSSA details but the Human Resources manager, Silas Kuveya is not helping in any way. Saimon ended up seeking intervention from NSSA offices.

“I have just turned 60 years and I should be receiving my NSSA pension but Silas Kuveya, DWTL Human Resources manager is not availing my details so that the social security authority can add me to their database and I start to reap my pension payments. I have been going to DWTL Spinning Division in Kadoma for some time now and still getting a raw deal.

“Every time I get excuses from the Human Resources manager’s department and I had to approach NSSA offices to intervene,” said an irate Saimon.

Contacted for comments DWTL Human Resources Manager Kuveya said that he was not allowed to talk to the media and referred all questions to the company’s directors.

A director with David Whitehead Textile, Rodwell Musiyiwa said that the delays in availing former workers details have been caused verification process of the former workers status during their time at David Whitehead Textile.

“There is no reason why the HR department would refuse to avail those records but we ask that the former workers  bear with us as we are just new in David Whitehead Textiles. We inherited it from the judicial manager and we are trying to get all the records in order,” said Musiyiwa.
