An African Movie-Ending Style Match at Baobab

By Lloyd Mwale in Mhondoro

The match between Chegutu Pirates and Dynamos at Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro-Ngezi can only be described like a movie series with two parts which will eventually end after the final part has been shot at a later date…but the directors of the movie just stopped shooting the set without any details.

But the midweek duel had the drama of a match in which the four match officials, Ref Peter Kalota, first assistant ref Luckson Mhara, second assistant ref Admore Chirara and fourth assistant ref Tichaona Mbire just left the field of play leaving the two teams without any answers to whether the match had ended or the final score line.

Very strange indeed.

Part One

The drama began in the 90+3 minutes with the match tied at nil-all. The visitors Dynamos won a corner kick and Pirates keeper Arnold Munkuli partially parried it into the way of Donald Dzvinyai who met the ball and the ball went into the net before a Pirates defender cleared it away.

The first assistant referee,Luckson Mhara raised his flag signalling that the ball had crossed the goal line before the Chegutu Pirates defender had cleared it and with Dynamos bench celebrating the goal hell then broke loose as Zaire players mobbed Mhara in protest.

The resultant protest by Zaire players led to the four match officials to stop the match for more than 10 minutes as they tried to decide whether to continue with the match.

As the four match officials tried to find the solution it appeared as they would overturn the decision of awarding the goal.

It was then the turn for Dynamos captain Frank Makarati to approach Mhara in protest and hell broke lose as the direction of the match would lead.

With the on-field fiasco all the match officials just left the field of play with Peter Kalota without blowing the final whistle leaving the two teams on the field of play.

Part Two (The End)

Was the match a nil-all draw

Will the match be awarded to Dynamos with a 1-nil win?
