Three Zimbabweans killed in South Africa building collapse
As search and rescue efforts continue in South Africa’s Western Cape, the three Zimbabwe nationals were discovered among the 18 victims including seven South Africans, one from Lesotho, five Malawi descendants, and two others from Mozambique.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to visit the George disaster site along with government officials, this Tuesday.
In a statement, South Africa’s Presidency said President Ramaphosa remains deeply attentive to rescue and recovery efforts underway and has expressed his deep condolences to the family and friends of the deceased workers.
The five-story building, which was under construction, collapsed on the 6th of this month, with almost a hundred people being trapped.
According to Municipality of George officials, 75 members of the construction crew were on-site at the time of the incident.
24 people were pulled from the wreckage and taken to hospital.
