The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE) has partnered with Education Coalition of Zimbabwe (ECOZI) to capacitate MashWest communities in transforming the education sector through the Digitalize Schools to Transform Education in Zimbabwe Programme (DigSTEinZ) through Community Engagement Programmes held in Zvimba and Mhondoro Ngezi districts.

In a Community Engagement Programme held at Kutama Day High School in Zvimba East district which was attended by schools development committees chairpersons and community leaders, Zvimba District Schools Inspector Andrew Matsikiti – who was represented by Zvimba District Acting DSI, Tatenda Simbarashe Matsopo – urged the community leaders and SDC chairpersons to be on the forefront in digitalising their schools by supporting the government’s drive of the programme.

“The government has come up with a programme of digitalising of schools and the schools development committees and the district’s community leaders must be at the forefront of digitalising your schools, as you’re the owners of these schools.

“In the district we have 145 primary schools and only 30 schools have been digitalised, while 28 high schools have been digitalised within the district. So this programme is aimed at you the community leaders to be in the front of digitalising schools by availing gadgets to your children for use at school and safeguarding these computer technology tools,” said Zvimba District DSI Matsikiti.
Kutama Day High School Head Simon Mudzingwa hailed the DigSTEMinZ Community Engagement Programme saying it will make parents and community leaders appreciate digitalising the schools.
“The Community Engagement Programme is an important programme as it is targeting the SDCs and community leaders who are parents to our pupils. The knowledge they have acquired has to be taken throughout the district to other parents so that the district will see schools digitalisation scaling up.

“Here at Kutama Day High School we have a class of 13 pupils drawn from the community who are doing computer lessons,” said Mudzingwa.
Zvimba District Ward 6 Councilior Rolent Masuwo welcomed the schools digitization programme.
“As community leaders who have influence within our communities, we will see to it that this government programme of digitalising of schools to transform the education sector is taken to all corners of Zvimba Districts. We will encourage the parents to avail gadgets for their children to be used during school lessons.” said Cllr Masuwo.
Ecozi is an apolitical and non-partisan coalition that unites civil society in the common pursuit of the right quality and free basic education in Zimbabwe.
