Notorious bhinya Daniel Chauke gets 133 years jail for raping 7 women
In a significant victory for justice, a serial rapist, Daniel Chauke (62), has been sentenced to a total of 133 years in prison following a full trial that took place from June 10 to June 14, 2024. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe successfully secured convictions on seven counts of rape.
According to the NPA, the accused’s crimes spanned a period of nearly two years, from July 2022 to April 2024. The State proved that Chauke had raped seven women, ranging in age from 23 to 71 years old. In one instance, he approached a 69-year-old woman who was returning from her field, claiming that her grandchildren had stolen his property. He then hit the woman, tied her hands and mouth, and forcefully led her into a bushy area where he committed the heinous act.
The accused was sentenced to 18 years on the first count, 15 years on the second count, and 20 years each on counts three to seven. The sentences for the first four counts will run concurrently with the seventh count, resulting in Chauke serving a total of 60 years in prison effectively.
This stiff sentence handed down by the court sends a clear message that such heinous crimes will not be tolerated.
