HOW TO GET A ZIM PASSPORT IN SA

Hand-written birth certificates are accepted, but they must be clear and in good condition.

Paper IDs are accepted as long as they are clear and in good condition.

One can not apply for a passport without original birth certificate and ID. You must have all documents, not to say I only have birth or ID it will not work!

You can not apply for an ID or birth certificates for adults at the Consulate. Only in Zimbabwe. You can only apply for birth certificates for children born in South Africa or any other country, but not Zimbabwe. You can not apply for birth certificates at the Consulate for children born in Zimbabwe

After applying for the passport at the Consulate, you can expect to collect it after 7 days

Passport fee currently is R3 450 for everything. You do not need photos or photocopies to apply for the epassport, everything is done inside

For all lost passports please bring police affidavit

Please please note that the Consulate does not “fix” overstays. You will have to approach Home Affairs to resolve that

Use of phones inside the Consulate is not allowed

You are encouraged to wear dark colours for passport photos

For ladies and men as well, take note that ear rings, nose rings and necklaces are not allowed. All hair must be black, no tints whatsoever

Office is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 2pm and is closed on both South African and Zimbabwean Public Holidays. No appointment is required, just walk-in
