CONTROVERSY BREWS AS MUSEUM SPACE REPURPOSED WITHOUT APPROVAL
By Thomas Faranando in Kadoma
Kadoma – In a move that has sparked outrage among residents and preservationists, the former museum building in the heart of Kadoma is being transformed into a coffee shop and bar, without obtaining the necessary change of use permits.
The building, which housed the town’s treasured historical artifacts and exhibits, will soon serves as a trendy gathering spot, nestled between the town library and town hall. While some residents have embraced the new establishment, many are crying foul, arguing that the repurposing of the space was done without proper authorization or consideration for the town’s cultural heritage.
“It’s a travesty,” said Thulani Moyo, kadoma resident and a member of Kadoma library.
“That building is a sacred space for our town’s history and culture. Now it’s just a place for people to grab a coffee and ignore the significance of the location.”
Last week City of Kadoma Town clerk, Mr M Dondo said he is not aware with the transformation of our beloved museum into a coffee shop or bar.
“I have no knowledge of any change of use permits or council resolutions that would have authorized such a drastic change.
He further said that the museum is a treasured institution and a vital part of the city’s cultural heritage.
“I will get more information about this matter and urge the responsible parties to come forward and explain what is going on,” he added.
The debate raises questions about the balance between progress and preservation, and whether the town’s history and heritage can coexist with modern development.
