Minister given job back after begging Mnangagwa
HARARE — President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reinstated Simelisizwe Sibanda as Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development following a series of apologies and commitments to avoid future errors.
Mnangagwa said his decision comes after Sibanda made “profuse apologies” and pledged to abstain from similar misdemeanors in the future.
The appointment is effective immediately, confirmed Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Martin Rushwaya, in a statement.
The revelation comes after Mnangagwa had initially fired Sibanda after he directed the transfer of a non-Ndebele speaking teacher who was taking an Early Childhood Development (ECD) class at a primary school in Matabeleland North.
The deployment of non-Ndebele speaking teachers to teach ECD classes in the predominantly Ndebele Matabeleland provinces has been a sticky issue in a region that continues to register poor pass rates year-in-year-out.
