Ex-ZRP Chief Superintendent Dies in Lover’s Arms; suspected overdose of sex pills

A former Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Chief Superintendent, Francis Matsika, tragically died in his lover’s arms on 19 August 2024, under sudden and mysterious circumstances while visiting her at her home in Seke, Chitungwiza. Matsika, who was 57 years old, is reported to have collapsed and died while being intimate with his long-time lover. The incident occurred at Blessing Zuva’s Unit H residence in the densely populated suburb.

According to a police memo obtained by this publication, Matsika arrived for the rendezvous at Zuva’s house at around 10:30 AM, carrying a plastic bag containing 10 litres of cooking oil and a pint of milk.

The memo further reveals that the two, who had been in a relationship since 2015, engaged in intimacy twice before Matsika suddenly began gasping for air and collapsed in her arms. Despite Zuva’s attempts to seek help, Matsika died on the spot.

Homemade Concoction Raises Suspicions Of Overdose

The police memo also disclosed that Matsika had instructed Zuva to mix the pint of milk with salt before their encounter, a homemade concoction he claimed was for his erectile dysfunction.

Zuva told the police that Matsika consumed the concoction before they were intimate. The unusual mixture has led to speculation that it may have contributed to his sudden demise.

Zuva, aged 45, immediately reported the incident to the ZRP Zengeza. The memo details that authorities from CID Homicide Harare, CID Studios, and CID Scenes of Crime attended the scene, where they discovered Matsika lying naked on the bed, covered with a brown blanket.

No visible injuries were found on his body, but the pot containing milk residue was taken as evidence.

“I was shocked when he started gasping for air,” Zuva told the investigators, as quoted in the police report. “I rushed to my friend Evelyne for help, but by the time we returned, it was too late.”

Crowd Gathers as News Spreads

As news of Matsika’s death spread, a large crowd of curious onlookers quickly gathered outside Zuva’s house. The crowd, consisting of local residents and passers-by, remained at the scene even as police arrived to investigate and carry the body of their former colleague away. The presence of the crowd added to the tense atmosphere in the usually quiet neighbourhood.

Investigation Ongoing

The cause of Matsika’s death remains unclear, pending a post-mortem examination. The police memo indicates that investigators are exploring whether the homemade concoction played a role in his untimely death.

According to the memo, the house lacked CCTV cameras and a durawall, which could complicate the investigation. The results of the post-mortem will be crucial in determining the true cause of Matsika’s death.

Chitungwiza residents are left in shock and speculation as they await the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
