Mvuma man convicted of killing his 15-month-old daughter
A Mvuma man, Trust Khaki, has been convicted at the High Court sitting in Gweru on charges of murdering his 15-month-old daughter, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is reporting.
It was the state’s case that Kaki, who was 35 at the time, was left with his daughter by her mother on the 19th of February 2021.
The mother had done so to collect the family’s share of social welfare food.
When the girl’s mother returned, she found Kaki holding their daughter. The child was struggling to breathe and had a deformed forehead, bruises on the chin, a swollen left side and a scratch on the back.
By the time she was rushed to her grandmother, it was established that she already died.
Investigations revealed that the deceased had been struck once on the head with a blunt object and several times all over the body with an unknown object.
Kaki was arrested after a Police report was made.
He will appear in court on Friday, the 13th of September 2024, for sentencing.
