Harare City Councillor Arrested on Extortion Charges

HARARE — The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested Harare City Councilor Blessing Duma on charges of extortion.

Duma, who represents Ward 29 and chairs the council’s Audit Committee, allegedly pressured Housing and Community Services Director Admore Nhekairo into signing allocation letters for two unserviced residential stands in Mabelreign Township. The stands were to be allocated to Welter Chigwereva and Danai Dzawanda.

ZACC says Duma threatened Nhekairo with punitive action by the Audit Committee if he did not comply. Duma is expected to appear in court on Thursday.
