MOPSE Launces Four Career Booklets for Basic Education Levels

The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Torerai Moyo has officially launched four career booklets to be used by learners throughout the country’s basic education levels.

The Education Minister launched the four booklets at Jameson High School during the inaugural National Guidance and Counseling Association Conference.
Unpacking the four booklets the Chief Director Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Wadzanai Nyanungo said the four booklets launched by the minister were aimed on how children can start planning their lives from an early age up to Advanced Level and the ministry had made more detailed research before coming up with these set of four booklets.

“The first booklet will target the lower learners, from ECD A up to Grade Two and the booklet will features mostly pictorial and few words while the Grade 3 to Grade 7 is the second booklet which will come with some more topics on the meaning of some different types of work!said the Chief Director in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

The MOPSE Chief Director also divulged that the Third and Fourth Booklets will bring in topics that schooleavers need and are handy booklets for them as they prepare for life after school.

“The Third booklet contents looks at the curriculum pathways that the learner have a variety of careers, relating to STEM, Physical Education and Fitness, Creative Arts, Entrepreneurship and Business, so that learners will have a choice of their elective learning areas.The Advanced Level booklet, which is the fourth booklet is for those who want to proceed beyond Advanced Level and brings in topics schooleavers need,for example how to apply for a job, writing a curriculm vitae,what happens during interviews,opening of a bank accounts, basic research, how to start an enterprise and how to solve some common life issues thereby making the learner fit for work and life in general
According to the Ministry’s Chief Director she said that these booklets will be availed to all learners in the basic education level, teachers, schools and parents.
“These booklets will be availed to all learners,parents,teachers,schools through the ministry’s website so that learners and others can download for themselves, schools will also download and print for their learners while parents can also download for their children and read for themselves instead of imposing career choices for their children or for themselves to impact the booklets contents to their children!” said Wadzanai Nyanungo
The Ministry’s Education Chief Director further said that the set of these booklets will create curiosity among learners.
“These set of booklets are going to trigger curiosity because some of the professions and opportunities are yet to be realized by the learners and schooleavers and once in the mood will continue to read, explore and research so that learners will have some well-rounded skills to drive the socio-economic transformation in Zimbabwe
