Chinese national sentenced to 30 years for Midlands murder
GOKWE – A Chinese national, Cai Yulong, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison by the High Court sitting in Gokwe after being convicted of murder in a dispute involving workers at a mine in Zhombe.
The court heard that on 26 May, Yulong, who runs Stone Steel Blue Mine, shot and killed a worker from the neighboring Black Hand 10 Mine. The victim and his colleagues were constructing a barricade when Yulong fired at them. One worker was fatally shot in the thigh, while another was injured in the knee and thigh. Yulong also assaulted a third worker.
In addition to the 30-year sentence for murder, Yulong received a concurrent five-year sentence for attempted murder and a fine for assault.
