Charles Manyuchi Moves Boxing Academy to Zambia Due to High Fees in Zimbabwe
Champion boxer-turned-promoter Charles Manyuchi has decided to relocate his boxing academy and promotion entity to Zambia. In an exclusive interview with Zimpapers Sports, Manyuchi explained that the move was driven by the prohibitive fees imposed on local promoters in Zimbabwe, which make it nearly impossible to recover investments from events.
“The boxing environment in Zimbabwe is not conducive due to the gazetted fees that are way too high to sustain promotions,” Manyuchi said. “There is nothing we can do about it because they have been set and ratified by a higher authority, which is the Ministry of Sport, Art, Culture and Recreation.”
He further elaborated that hosting boxing tournaments in Zimbabwe offers no financial reward, likening it to charity work. Consequently, Manyuchi does not foresee organizing any tournaments in Zimbabwe in the near future due to the high costs involved.
Speaking from Lusaka, Manyuchi expressed his disappointment but remained hopeful about the future of his boxing academy in Zambia.
