Pacesetters Simba Bhora coach Tonderai Ndiraya ran short of descriptive superlatives of his charges’ performance but believes it’s not time to be complacent, as the PSL title race is still open, despite extending their lead with a 2-0 win against Chegutu Pirates.
Capitalising on their height, structure and fitness, Simba announced their intention to cling to the top with first-half goals from Ismael Nyanhi and Mtokozisi Msebe.
Nyanh comfortably settled Simba ahead when he directed a curling cross from Walter Musona’s free-kick with a glancing header that settled into the bottom corner of the goal in the 7th minute.
Pirates were not despaired by the setback as they mounted attacks but were just unlucky not to score
With the match heading for halftime, Simba increased the tally when Tymone Machope outpaced his marker, weaved into the box and laid a neat pass that Msebe buried home.
In the last half, the Pirates became more composed, displaying an exciting brand of football and dominating in all departments, but they had nothing to celebrate at the end of the game.
In a post-match interview, Ndiraya praised his boys’ performance but warned them not to lower their guard as they are still in the trenches
“A good result. The boys put on a good performance.”
“I credit the boys for keeping another clean sheet, but we need to focus more on getting results in our remaining fixtures.”
“The race is not over yet. There are still 7 games to go, and anything can happen along the way,” said Ndiraya.
His counterpart, Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe, also believes the race is still on and is hopeful that they can salvage the Pirates’ ship from sinking.
“We are still in the Premier until we are mathematically out.”
“We only need to win games for us to remain in the league. There are still 21 points to fight for”
