Harare Businessmen Face Trial for US$7.7 Million Fraud in Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme

The trial of Harare businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, accused of defrauding the Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme of US$7.7 million, begins today at the High Court.

The duo allegedly forged tax and compliance certificates to secure a tender for supplying goats, misrepresenting their company’s compliance status.

Despite receiving substantial payments, they failed to deliver the agreed number of goats, leading to their arrest in July. The trial, presided over by Justice Pisirayi Kwenda, is set to run until Friday.
