President Mnangagwa intervenes in Findale School exam saga: 30 learners will now sit for their Zimsec exams
PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has come to the rescue of more than 30 learners at Findale School in Eastview who missed Ordinary level examinations this week after the school owner allegedly misappropriated their exam fees.
Moved by the plight of over 30 learners at Findale School in Harare, who were left stranded after missing Ordinary Level Examinations, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has moved in to pay for the examination fees and made it possible for them to write the remaining subjects.
This was confirmed by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Honourable Torerai Moyo when he visited Findale School in Eastview in Harare this Wednesday,
“I want to thank His Excellency the President for coming to the rescue of all these learners because their fundamental right, education, had been violated through this theft by the owner of this school.
“What is most important is the fact that the proliferation of unreasonable schools is a challenge to us as the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, and we are going to take measures against all those schools that are operating illegally,” said Minister Moyo.
ZIMSEC Chief Executive Officer, Dr Lazarus Nembaware confirmed the centres where learners will be sitting for their examinations.
“We are now putting in place all the requirements so that the affected learners will start writing their exams starting tomorrow. So starting tomorrow they must report to the centres which we have allocated them. They will write as Pirate candidates and their results will be made public,” he said.
The news has been met with jubilation by the learners.
“I am happy that we have been given the green light to write our remaining examinations. I had lost hope because people were now saying a lot of things, I want to thank our President for paying fees for us, it shows that he cares for us,” said a learner who spoke to ZBC News.
“We are so excited that our President has paid examination fees for our children. Sadly, all the money we had paid was not paid to ZIMSEC. I don’t know how we can thank our President for coming to the rescue of children. We had lost all hope but after seeing our issue on television he quickly came to our rescue. We are so happy,” said one parent.
The government is taking measures against schools that are operating illegally to ensure such incidences do not recur.
