18-Year-Old Mother Stones 2-Year-Old Son To Death
On December 12, 2024, law enforcement officials in Mkwanise arrested an 18-year-old mother, Maria Zimvumi, after she stoned her toddler son to death. The incident occurred two days earlier, on December 10, near the Maranatha paddock, leaving the local community in shock and distress.
The suspect, Maria Zimvumi, is accused of fatally assaulting her two-year-old son by stoning him. The reasons behind this gruesome act remain unclear.
According to initial investigations, the suspect had been experiencing significant financial hardships. She had recently failed to secure employment as a domestic worker in Chiredzi Town, a situation that may have contributed to her distress.
She went with her son to the paddocks, where she proceeded to strike her son with a rock. She repeatedly struck him till he died to the injuries.
To hide her actions, Zimvumi reportedly carried her deceased child on her back and approached the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Chiredzi. She falsely claimed that the child had died from injuries sustained in a fall from her back. However, her narrative quickly unravelled under police questioning.
Authorities launched an in-depth investigation into the matter. Their findings revealed inconsistencies in the suspect’s account, leading to the conclusion that the initial report was fabricated to obscure the true nature of the crime. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody, where she remains while the case progresses through the justice system.
The police have urged citizens not to act out when they are emotional. Citizens are being urged not to use violence against children and anyone as this can lead to deadly consequences. via iHarare
