Chegutu Pirates coach Moses Chunga ran short of descriptive superlatives to express his excitement after his team recorded their first victory in the Northern Region Soccer League during their opening game at Pfupajena Stadium on Saturday.

After suffering two consecutive defeats and a draw, all played away, Pirates striker Donald Gwegweduka’s goal-bound header deflected off a Mambas defender and found its way into the net, igniting celebrations from both the fans and players.

Chunga felt relieved by the win, especially as his boys showed signs of fatigue in the second half.

” I’m very happy to collect important maximum points. The boys played exceptionally well and I believe the win will propel them to cultivate a winning culture going forward,” Chunga said

He also thanked and urged their enthusiastic fans to be patient and trust the boys.

“Our fans have to be patient. This is a work in progress that requires the input and support of all stakeholders,”

While Chunga was on cloud nine, his counterpart Charles Rukwanhi expressed discontent over the defeat they conceded at the hands of Pirates.

“It’s quite disappointing to lose to a team that has not been playing well in their last three outings. In fact, in this game, they just did what was safe for them

Despite the defeat, Rukwanhi was however enthused by the electric atmosphere that filled the stadium

” The atmosphere is very conducive. It’s quite encouraging to play before such a big crowd,” Rukwanhi stated
